No big mistakes, but lost anyway!

Here's the first game of the STC MayMania tournament. All I can say about the game (other than the comments below) is that my opponent played well. I don't think I made any glaring errors other than exchanging my passive Rook for Black's active one into a lost endgame. But, I don't think I made any stellar moves either.

I'd really appreciate your advice on how to avoid this kind of outcome. I was on the lookout for tactical opportunities throughout the game. There were a number of tense moments that ended up being resolved in equal exchanges. Perhaps I need to work on creating tactical opportunities? Maybe I simply lost focus at the end of the game?

Pendrax, I assume you were white. You play the colle system. Its very similar to what i play, the London, with the exception you leave teh queen's bishop behind the pawn chain. What I usually try to acheive is to get the knight to e5 and the queen over to the king side via f3 then h3. I follow up with getting the second knight over from d2-f3-g5 and I usually havea strong k-side attack... bihop on d3 especially. just some thoughts. BP

I think that's a good game. You might consider some endgame study to more easily hold on to a draw in these kinds of positions.

I play the colle system as well due to its simplicity. I might change in the future since I do find it a bit dull and it is often very difficult to obtain an advantage and black achieves equality very easily even with accurate play on whites part. I think blunderprone has a good suggestion with Ne5. I find that plan is a lot easier to implement than any other. try playing it on move 8.
